Base on the past few years, Sony's PlayStation 3 did not do well in sales compare to the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 but it will have a future of selling more consoles than any of its competitions.
It was reported "Taming the Waves: Games Console Life Cycles and Platform Competition that a analysts from Strategic Analytics said that the PlayStation 3 will have a much longer shelf life than current market leader the Nintendo Wii.
Despite that, It was predicted that PS3 have a lifetime sales that will hit 127 million units while the Wii will only get a grand total of 103 Wii units.
David Mercer, Principal Analyst at Strategic Analytics said in a statement that "Nintendo has done a great job with the Wii in bringing console games to new audiences."
But the sales are now falling for the wii. However, PS3 will hit its highest point between 2010 and 2014. Predicted and figured on several scenarios for each platform by Stratergy Analytics.
The main factor in those scenarios is an increasing consumer desire for more than just gaming built into their consoles.

Aside from that, the firm was quick to point out that its forecasts could be off.
The upcoming release of Project Natal and Sony's motion controller could dramatically affect its predictions.
Strategy Analytics believes that current-generation-console ownership will hit its peak in 2011 from a market wide perspective.
The prediction of the analysts seem to reflect what Sony has been saying since the PlayStation 3's launch.And to "maintain industry growth" this three big game vendors will need to launch new consoles.
The company says that early sales will not predict anything unllike its competition, the PS3 will have a 10 years life cycle and will last long than any of the consoles .
A COUPLE addicted to computer games let their real baby starve to death while raising a virtual daughter online.
Police said the couple spent up to12 hours a day at internet cafes, leaving their three-month-old daughter home alone at their apartment in Suwon, South Korea.
Police said the couple became obsessed with living online and neglected their real lives, The Sunreports.
They raised an avatar baby through their profiles on a Second Life-style game called PRIUS, while their real daughter was given just one bottle of milk a day.
Father Kim Yoo-chul, 41, and mom Choi Mi-sun, 25, called the emergency services when they returned from one online session in September last year and found their daughter dead.
"We found she had passed away when we woke up in the morning," they said.
But cops became suspicious about how severely dehydrated the baby was.
A spokesman for the National Scientific Criminal and Investigation Laboratory, which carried out an autopsy on the girl, said, "she appears to have starved to death because she was not fed for such a long period of time."
The girl was initially well cared for by her grandmother but her health deteriorated after she moved back in with her parents.
Police tried to arrest the parents but they disappeared after the baby's funeral.
Authorities caught up with them Tuesday and charged them with child abuse and neglect.
The couple told police of their guilt after their arrests.
"Due to our sense of guilt, we have not been to a PC gaming room over these five months," they said.
Online games are massively popular in South Korea.

We are in a recession. Perhaps it's even a depression. But it's really not that bad. You see, someone, somewherejust spent $41,300 on a Nintendo game.
Is Stadium Events a great Nintendo game? I suspect not many people really know. Because not many people have ever played it. Not many copies were ever produced. Just after it was launched, Nintendo ordered a recall.
It could be that there are only around 200 copies floating around the world. It could be that there are only 20.

"We had quite a collection (185+ games) that has sat in our basement for over 20 years," Dave told Y! Games. "The games were on a list to be brought to Goodwill--in fact, within a month, Goodwill was going to have them."
I don't know whether Goodwill will get anything now. Perhaps Dave will continue to find value in everything that still lurks in his basement. He is very grateful for the sudden income in such difficult times. I wonder if, in some fine future, America's little towns will always have one small, dusty store, piled high with old video games. Wizened, graying men will wander into these stores, spend hours browsing the shelves in search of some rare version of Grand Theft Auto and passing the time of day with the owner.
One day, perhaps a teenager, sniffing excessively, will wander into the store clutching something valuable, perhaps the last known copy of Stadium Events. "I'll give you $400," the canny owner will say. And the kid, amazed this crappy box of something ancient could be worth so much, will readily agree.
